Making my way through the debris of the abandoned house at 22 Office Road was an experience that combined familiarity and strangeness. I had passed by this house and witnessed its slow decay for years. When I photographed it in late August 2007, the house was barely standing. In early September 2007 it was suddenly gone. From one week to another, the section was purged of all remains. It was as if the house had never been there. My photographs of the house at 22 Office Road record the effects of time and decay, but also reach towards the house’s enduring homeliness. The display of these photographs in the space of my studio reconstructs an experience of a place which now exists only as a fiction.
